What does a day in the life of your role look like?

My role is responsible for leading value-drive delivery in the Engineering team. To achieve this, my days consist of:

  • Stakeholder management: I work with stakeholders to ensure we define and specify deliverables in each project.
  • Project management: I document and manage product requirements by breaking down and refining epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Agile ceremony management: I organize and facilitate the daily stand-ups, backlog reviews, sprint planning, and sprint retrospective meetings.
  • Reporting: I report on each team’s weekly and monthly outputs and achievements.

What’s your team like?

Working in the Engineering Team is very rewarding. We are a small knit team with a big skill set. Due to our size and intimacy, we can deliver value to our customers and stakeholders quickly.

Everyone on the team has a sense of purpose. The team is well-organized and structured. This ensures we are working towards objectives rather than desires. We are encouraged to have our own autonomy. This type of culture is very inspiring to be part of. You are accountable and must hold yourself to a high standard all the time.

What makes you enjoy working at VisibleThread?

VisibleThread is a very progressive organization. The ability to work from home and organize my own time is a benefit to me and my family. The organization is a very open place to work. You can ask anyone for help with a problem or issue that you’re having.

As the company grows and goes from strength to strength, so must the processes and procedures within it. The company encourages us to question current processes and suggest or make improvements where we see fit.

Do you feel like your efforts are recognized?

“The biggest recognition any organization can give an individual is the sense of appreciation and inclusion. VisibleThread does plenty in this regard.”

I feel like it’s easy to approach senior management about ideas or improvements I see. Senior management call out employees for the great work they do during our all-hands meetings.

There are plenty of organized work events. These allow us to step away from the mundane day-to-day activities. We can socialize and get to know each other on a more personal level. In the short year that I’ve been part of the company, we’ve been mountain biking and go-karting.

Tell us something fun about you

When I’m not giving in to the latest demands of my 3- and 5-year-old kids, I try to play some golf or get to the gym. I am known to enjoy a holiday or two! Getting to the sun and exploring a new place will always get priority during my time off.

A word from the Hiring Manager

Eoin Wren – Head of Engineering

As Head of Engineering at VisibleThread my goal is to build a team that will drive the company on its growth journey.

Our Engineering team is more than a collection of engineers, it’s a team of individuals with different personalities, different backgrounds, and different goals.

Each brings with them their own set of experiences and skills. These help shape how we build our software and shape our team culture. I like nothing more than learning new skills and new ideas from my team.

We all share the same collective goal, which is to build world-class products for VisibleThread customers. As our company grows, we want our employees to grow too. This is key to our culture, finding out what makes our people tick, and giving them the environment to develop both personally and professionally.

If you like creating software that makes your customers smile, and working with a talented, motivated team, you will fit right in!
