Automatic Suspension

A remedy preventing an authority from signing a contract when a challenge is brought within the standstill period, until lifted or resolved.

A legal remedy that prevents a contracting authority from entering into a contract when procurement proceedings are commenced within the applicable standstill period (or other prescribed period) challenging the award decision. The suspension remains in force until it is lifted by the court, the proceedings are resolved, or it otherwise ceases to apply under the relevant procurement legislation. Automatic suspension is distinct from the Standstill Period, which is a fixed period before contract award regardless of whether a challenge is brought.
