Buy American Act (BAA)

A US law requiring a preference for domestic end products and construction materials in federal purchases, subject to exceptions; also means Broad Agency Announcement.

(U.S. Government contracting) A U.S. federal law requiring agencies to apply a preference for domestic end products and construction materials when acquiring supplies or carrying out public works, subject to statutory and regulatory exceptions. These include circumstances in which the Trade Agreements Act (TAA) applies, as well as other exceptions such as public interest, non-availability, or unreasonable cost. Note: BAA is also used as the abbreviation for Broad Agency Announcement; the intended meaning should be determined from the context.
