A government official who has been granted a contracting warrant authorising them to enter into, administer, modify, and terminate contracts on behalf of the U.S. Government, and to make related contractual determinations and findings. Only a Contracting Officer has the legal authority to bind the Government contractually or approve changes to contract scope, price, or schedule. Contractors should direct all contractual commitments, modifications, and formal communications requiring contractual authority through the Contracting Officer, as other government personnel generally cannot legally commit the Government.
