Debarring Official

A federal agency official with authority to suspend or debar organisations from government contracting for misconduct.

A government official, designated by the head of a federal agency, who has the authority to suspend or debar individuals or organisations from participating in federal contracting and other covered transactions. The Debarring Official reviews evidence of misconduct, such as fraud, criminal convictions, serious contract performance failures, or violations of law or regulation, and determines whether suspension or debarment is necessary to protect the Government’s interests. Contractors should understand the role of the Debarring Official because debarment can prevent a business from competing for or receiving federal contracts for a specified period and may have significant commercial and reputational consequences.
