The network of organizations, facilities, technologies, and workforce that research, design, develop, manufacture, deliver, and sustain products and services for the U.S. Department of Defense and other national security agencies. The Defense Industrial Base (DIB) includes prime contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers, software developers, research institutions, and critical service providers that support defense capabilities. Because the DIB is designated as U.S. critical infrastructure, participating organizations are subject to heightened security, supply chain, and cybersecurity requirements, including the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and, where applicable, compliance with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and related DFARS cybersecurity requirements.
