Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

A cabinet-level department of the U.S. federal government responsible for protecting public health, advancing biomedical research, and administering federal health and human services programs. HHS oversees major agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and National Institutes of Health (NIH), and administers the Medicare and Medicaid programs through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). HHS is one of the federal government’s largest procuring agencies, awarding contracts for healthcare services, information technology, scientific research, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, public health initiatives, and program management support.
