A trade name, assumed name, or fictitious business name that a company uses in commerce instead of its legal registered business name. A Doing Business As (DBA) designation does not create a separate legal entity; contracts are executed with the underlying legal business. In U.S. government contracting, contractors may register and identify their DBA in SAM.gov and other procurement systems to ensure their public-facing business name is associated with the correct legal entity. Using a DBA can simplify marketing and customer recognition while maintaining the legal identity required for contract awards, payments, and compliance.
