A U.S. federal labor law that establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor standards for most employees in the private sector and in federal, state, and local governments. Commonly known as the Federal Wage and Hour Law, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor and sets the baseline requirements employers must follow when compensating employees. In government contracting, the FLSA works alongside other labor statutes, such as the Service Contract Act (SCA) and the Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), to help ensure contractors comply with applicable wage and labor standards.
