GSIN code (GSIN)

A legacy Government of Canada classification code for categorising procured goods, services, and construction.

A classification code historically used by the Government of Canada to identify and categorise the goods, services, and construction it procured. GSIN codes were widely used to classify procurement opportunities, supplier registrations, and contract awards. While the CanadaBuys platform now primarily uses the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code (UNSPSC) for classifying procurement notices, GSIN codes continue to appear in legacy tender notices, historical contract data, and older procurement systems. Understanding GSIN remains useful when researching historical procurement opportunities or working with legacy Canadian government records.
