Request for Information (RFI)

A document gathering information on suppliers' capabilities and solutions before a formal procurement, not a request for binding bids.

A document issued by a buyer to gather information from potential suppliers about their capabilities, experience, capacity, approaches, and possible solutions before commencing a formal procurement. An RFI is used to support market research, early market engagement, or the development of procurement requirements and is not normally a request for binding prices or formal bids.
