Small Business Specialists (SBSs) help ensure that small businesses receive equitable opportunities to compete for federal contracts by providing guidance to contracting officers, program managers, and prospective suppliers. Their responsibilities typically include identifying small business opportunities, supporting market research, reviewing acquisition strategies, promoting compliance with small business policies, and assisting businesses in understanding federal procurement requirements. Many SBSs work within an agency’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) or a similar small business office.
