United States Munitions List (USML)

The list of defence articles, technical data, and services controlled under ITAR, whose export and foreign release require State Department licensing.

The United States Munitions List (USML) is the list of defense articles, technical data, and defense services subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Published in 22 CFR Part 121, the USML organizes controlled defense-related items into categories such as firearms, military electronics, spacecraft, aircraft, and naval systems. If a product, technology, or service is designated on the USML, its export, temporary import, retransfer, and release to foreign persons are generally subject to ITAR licensing and compliance requirements administered by the U.S. Department of State. Federal contractors must determine whether their products or technical data are USML-controlled to ensure compliance with export control regulations.
