A formal written delegation of contracting authority that authorises a government contracting professional, typically a Contracting Officer, to enter into, administer, modify, and terminate contracts on behalf of the U.S. Government. A warrant specifies the scope and limits of the individual’s authority, including any monetary thresholds or other restrictions. Only individuals acting within the authority of their warrant can legally bind the Government in contractual matters. Contractors should verify that contract awards, modifications, and other contractual commitments are issued by a warranted Contracting Officer to ensure they are legally valid.
