Subject Matter Expert (SME)

A specialist who contributes and reviews technical or domain-specific content in a bid; note SME can also mean small and medium enterprise.

An individual with specialist knowledge or expertise in a particular subject who contributes technical, commercial, operational, or domain-specific content to a bid or proposal. SMEs review content for technical accuracy and may help develop solutions, respond to customer requirements, and support proposal presentations. Note: The abbreviation SME can also mean Small and Medium-sized Enterprise; the intended meaning should be clear from the context.
